Challenge

With the future arrival of Manitoba’s first outlet mall, real estate leader Ivanhoé Cambridge needed to raise awareness and excitement for their venture. In collaboration with their communications team, we executed a multi-year, five-phase PR plan that engaged stakeholders, shoppers, social media influencers and news/trade media across North America.

 

Solution

We co-planned events, developed speaking programs, and more for the groundbreaking of the mall and later built and executed a PR strategy to generate buzz for its opening date, job fair, sneak-peek tours, and finally, grand opening. Our PR team wrote speeches, engaged media (including exclusive live interviews with CTV Winnipeg and BNN), coordinated VIPs and elected officials, promoted the career fair, and provided advance tours for media and agency-selected influencers.

 

Results

In the lead up to and including the grand opening, we achieved 54 media stories from trade publications and news outlets several times over, achieving more than 13 million earned media impressions across Manitoba, Canada and the U.S. We also garnered tens of thousands social media impressions, posts and shares. Thousands of shoppers attended the grand opening, where OCW was officially opened by Ivanhoé Cambridge executives, the premier of Manitoba and the mayor of Winnipeg.

Ubisoft Winnipeg Images

Ubisoft Winnipeg

 

Challenge

Ubisoft selected Winnipeg as the location for a new development studio. The global game developer wanted a launch event that conveyed the significance of the announcement, demonstrated a meaningful connection between Ubisoft and Winnipeg, activated each target audience, and provided media with content that enriched its brand story and expanded its coverage by coming to a new market.

 

Solution

We developed a launch event strategy that implemented successful PR, media relations and VIP relations to announce the news of Ubisoft’s decision – while working to keep the brand a mystery to media as long as possible. In close consultation with the company’s international communications team and YES! Winnipeg, we managed all aspects of the event, including the VIP guest list, site selection, audio, video, catering, the reception and the development of visual assets.

 

Results

By securing the participation of dignitaries, locating and inviting high school students from a game development program to participate, and writing/distributing all media materials, we inspired numerous international and 17 local earned media stories with a reach of over 4 million and more than 25,000 social media impressions for one of the world’s largest independent video game publishers.

Save-On Foods Images

Challenge

When Save-On-Foods decided to expand into Manitoba and Saskatchewan with as many as 50 new stores and thousands of new jobs on the horizon, they needed launch events in both provinces – on the same day. With only two weeks to pull it off, they came to us for help.

 

Solution

One of the first things we did for Canada’s largest western-based grocery retailer was leverage local insight to connect them with relevant stakeholders in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan (food banks and community groups), and dignitaries (municipal and provincial government representatives), serving as a primary contact. As Save-On-Foods prides itself on community support, the Manitoba event would have a major festival-like component with ethnic fare served and dancers on stage. We also reviewed, edited and distributed all PR materials and handled media throughout.

In the week leading up to the announcement events, we distributed media advisories, coordinated photographers and videographers to capture the announcements and public activities, assisted in developing promotional social media messaging, and managed location logistics. 

 

Results

Both events were highly successful at earning extensive media. In less than 24 hours, 17 stories were earned, resulting in 130,000 online views and around 5,500 social media shares. We also helped stage the free community celebration at the Winnipeg event, which drew over 1,000 eager shoppers.

Hilton Garden Inn Images

Hilton Garden Inn

 

Challenge

Hotel developer-operator SK Developments engaged us to help build excitement for Manitoba’s first Hilton of the Garden Inn brand. To give the future $35-million property next to Winnipeg Outlet Collection the attention it deserved, we organized a groundbreaking ceremony.

 

Solution

To make the groundbreaking a success, we invited guests and VIPs based on our stakeholder guest list, wrote speaking notes and all media materials, developed the speaking program and accompanying visual presentation, coordinated event photography, handled media, emceed the event, and worked with elected leaders and Hilton Worldwide executives.

We also collaborated with the Hilton Worldwide global communications team to prepare messaging and plan for their spokesperson.

 

Results

We secured robust media attendance and coverage, creating public excitement for the project.
